Laura’s Story: Childhood Trauma, Addiction and Finding a Way Forward
In this episode, Laura from Co. Monaghan shares her personal experience of growing up in a family home affected by alcohol misuse and the trauma and emotional impact that followed her into later life.
Laura speaks candidly about her childhood experiences and how growing up around addiction shaped her relationships, emotions and ability to cope. She reflects on subsequently experiencing addiction-related challenges with other family members and the lasting impact these experiences had on her wellbeing.
Her story explores how experiences from childhood can stay with us, sometimes influencing how we respond to difficulties and relationships as adults. Laura also speaks about the importance of understanding her own experiences, finding healthier ways to cope and accessing support.
Laura engaged with FASN and shares her story to help others understand that the effects of addiction can reach far beyond the person using substances — and that healing and support are possible.
