Rosie’s Story: Living Alongside Alcohol Dependence

In this episode of the Family Addiction Support Podcast, Rosie from Co. Cavan shares her deeply personal experience of living alongside a partner experiencing long-term alcohol dependence.

Rosie speaks openly about the impact addiction had on her own emotional wellbeing, the challenges of parenting while managing the uncertainty that addiction can bring, and the ways her partner’s alcohol use affected family life. She also reflects on the importance of recognising her own needs and finding ways to protect her wellbeing while continuing to care for those around her.

Rosie’s story highlights the often-overlooked experience of the family member living alongside addiction — the worry, exhaustion, uncertainty and emotional impact, but also the importance of finding support and learning that you cannot take responsibility for another person’s recovery.

Rosie engaged with FASN for support and shares her experience in the hope that other family members may recognise themselves in her story and know that they are not alone.
